Where should I apply?

If you live in:

How do I get my first payment?

  • Student loans - If you are a new student, you must bring your payment schedule letter from the Student Loans Company when you collect your matriculation card. Continuing students must bring their matriculation card and payment schedule letter to The Academic Registry from 7 September 2009. We will scan a barcode from the letter and then confirm to the Student Loans Company that you are a student here. They will make a payment directly into your bank account, normally within 3 working days of this confirmation. If you get your letter after you have collected your card you still need to bring it to us.
  • Grants/bursaries - Instalments for grant or bursary will be paid direct into your bank account after your application is processed and you have started your course. If you do not receive a student loan you must bring us your matriculation card and SAAS award letter to scan to confirm your attendance or later instalments may be stopped. You don't need to do this if you are a nursing or postgraduate student.
First instalments are still paid by cheque for a very small number of students who have been unable to supply suitable bank details. Your award letter will tell you how your instalments will be paid. Cheques are available from The Academic Registry usually about a week to 10 days after you receive your award letter. You need to show your award letter and valid matriculation card when you collect a cheque.
