Bevens and Dean are latest high profile appointments to support Glasgow Caledonian University’s journalism expansion

Two more respected Scottish journalists have joined Glasgow Caledonian University to help roll out its new postgraduate Masters programmes in journalism.

Nick Bevens, former business editor of the Scotsman, and Claire Dean, former reporter with STV's Scotland Today, will be teaching and leading classes on Caledonian's new MA Multimedia Journalism from next month.

The MA Multimedia Journalism is the first postgraduate journalism course in Central Scotland which aims to ensure all its students learn how to report and produce journalism in print, radio, TV and online media. The programme won accreditation from the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) in June.

Dean, who started her career at Radio Clyde, will be leading the programme's broadcast journalism teaching, while Bevens will concentrate on business, international and other specialist reporting areas. Bevens started his career as a trainee with the Gulf Daily News in Bahrain and worked for a decade on various trade and industry titles in the Gulf and Asia before returning to Scotland in 1992. From 2009 he will also play a leading role in launching Caledonian's planned MA in International Business Journalism.

"Nick brings exactly the right mix of senior industry experience for what we hope to achieve with our plans for launching the UK's first dedicated Masters degree in business journalism," says programme leader Ken Garner; "and Claire has been working with us part-time already, running undergraduate TV journalism newsdays, and making a terrific contribution to our podcasting training courses we've been running for the Herald and Times papers in Glasgow over the past year."

"The media landscape is changing faster than ever before," said Dean; "and I'm excited to be involved in the new Masters course at Caledonian which aims to produce highly multi-skilled graduates ready to break new ground working across all media."

The final open days for anyone interested in the course to take a chance in the entrance test are on 18th and 28th August, and 11th September. Full details can be found at the programme web pages at: http://www.caledonian.ac.uk/cbs/postgraduate/mamj/index.html

Journalist and former Government Minister Brian Wilson was appointed visiting professor to the school in October 2007.
